Hello, today after planning carefully i installed DotNetNuke 4.4.1 to Godaddy root. I followed existing guides and mixed them with my average experience.

I created all directories as virtual folders and assigned necessary permissons.

But only one thing i couldnt do successfully. Creating child portals.
Lets say first i try to create a child portal without creating virtual directory on root
Child portal called : Test255
At Host/Portals menu i try to create this portal and receive following error.

Error configuring Child PortalAccess to the path 'f:\hosting\username\test255' is denied. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.Directory.InternalCreateDirectory(String fullPath, String path, DirectorySecurity dirSecurity) at System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(String path, DirectorySecurity directorySecurity) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.CreatePortal(String PortalName, String FirstName, String LastName, String Username, String Password, String Email, String Description, String KeyWords, String TemplatePath, String TemplateFile, String HomeDirectory, String PortalAlias, String ServerPath, String ChildPath, Boolean IsChildPortal)

The above error states that DotNetNuke application couldnt create test255 folder on my hosting root.

Then i tried to configure my Control panel to create virtual directory for test256 folder and aplied read, write, web permissons.
Switched back to dnn, and tried to create Test256 child portal now. And received following message
The Child Portal Name You Specified Already Exists. Please Choose A Different Child Portal Name.

Are there any workaround for this. Or can i create child portals on my local clone and then apply it to remote host?

Do your manual creation of the folder, but create the portal in DNN as a parent portal.

After it is created, go in and change the PortalAlias for that portal so it maps it as the subfolder.

Having a portal alias in the form of mysite.com/childfolder is really the only thing that makes it a "child" portal.

Also, you will need to copy the subhost.aspx file from the  /portals/_default folder into your child folder and rename it to default.aspx

After that, you may want to apply the following tip:

Using SiteUrls.config to clean-up Child PortalAlias on querystring

John's methodology sounds interesting. There is a long discussion http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/84515/scope/posts/Default.aspx that has another method. Basically setting it up in s subdirectory and then moving it up to the top level after DNN as re-written the web.config file.  Several of the first level directories then require special permissions.  I wish that I had seen John suggestion when I set up my installation at GoDaddy.

Hi Dave,

I have never tried to use Godaddy to host DNN , but I have seen a lot of the horror stories.

I made the assumption that the application was already up and running for the answer earlier in this thread but maybe that was wrong.

DNN really needs write permissions on a few folders so if that isn't possible then your sub directory method is probably better.

John, followed your suggestions this time im receiving following error.

The code subdirectory '/dev/App_Code/Reports/' does not exist.

However my code subdirectories located at App_Code/Reports directory. App_Code and dev directories are located same level.

I am using Source Package of DotNetNuke 4.4.1. I tried to delete modules that uses App_Code but this time dev.mikroproje.com gave me an error about Compression, than i deleted compression and this time it gave me error about UrlRewrite module.

What should i do to successfully install my child or parent portals?
