I am running Windows 2003 R2 Standard Edition, IIS 5 I'm trying to upgrade from DNN 3.3.7 Source to  DNN 4.4.1 Source. If I set the ASP.NET to 1.1.4322 I get this error:

Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'requirePermission'.

if I set the ASP.NET to 2.0.50727 I get this error:

HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
Internet Information Services (IIS).

I've remaned the release.config to web.config & changed the following values:

 SiteSqlServer
validationKey
decryptionKey

ADDED
<add key="InstallationDate" value="2/21/2007" />

Can anyone tell me what the problem might be?? I've tried a straight build of DNN 4.4.1  & that won't even install.

Okay, I also was getting an HTTP Error 404. No matter what I tried. I am running Windows Server 2003 (my domain controller is a seperate box) and IIS6.0. After many hours of configuring/changing/uninstalling/re-installing, Here is what worked (for me at least):

1. I un-installed .NET framework v1.1.xxx
2. I installed  .NET framework v2.0.50727
3. I ran .NET v2.0.50727  aspnet_regiis.exe (aspnet_regiis.exe -ir -enable).
   (ASP.NET v2.0.50727 should be allowed in Web Service Extensions)

It looks like .NET framework v1.1 and v2.0 has some problems working together.  I read some postings that there are problems running both versions, so before spending much time I decided to uninstall v1.1 and it worked.

One last note. When I ran the install I received a configuration error in the web.config file. on the following line:

     <!-- add name="Compression" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Compression.HttpModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Compression"/> -->

I just commented it out and it ran fine after that.  Not sure what this line does, but I will check into it latter.

-- good luck
