Yes i've applied the fix and it's sorted out my non-USA error. Thanks for your kind attention to us non-standard date type internationals :)

Farewell to the core team mate, i'm with you ...

I have a slightly different twist on this bug.  For my site the problem manifested itself when selecting a picture from the thimbnails and trying to enlarge it.

Pictures that had worked fine in the gallery for weeks just stopped working.  I manually changed all the dates I could find in the UI and the problem still didn't go away.  Picking up on the comment about XML - I checked the file directories.  In Portals\4\Gallery\587 (it will be different for you) is a file called _metadata.resources.  In there (again it wil be different for you) is stored the Album creation date. Mine looked like...

    <createddate>19/4/2007</createddate>

Once I changed the 19 to 12 it worked.

Now how lame is that?  1) Why store a date that (I think) never appears in the UI? 2) XML has a proper global format for dates.  Why not use it?

Best wishes,

- Richard

yep..lame...  The beta version of the gallery writes the date to the XML file in whatever format the machine is configured for, but reads it in US date format (or maybe its the other way around).  When the code was first written (a year or 2 ago) nobody tested it on international machines, and since that time the core team has been working on storing the date in the database using standard date formats, so it hasn't been a high priority to fix the old XML based file with its problems.

So if you want to run the beta version, you need to either turn off the international date stuff (pick US as your date format), or manually fix the date (often?) to get it to work.

One thing I seriously fail to understand is ... Why has my site worked happily with no problems until today?  I had two albums in the gallery, both working fine.

Last night I added a new album.  Today the whole gallery is falling over with this date format error.  I will swear that I have not changed the language of the site since I created it, yet it looks like adding the new album, last night caused the XML file to be re-written with the date in a different format.  How so?  I'm a programmer so I claim to understand this kind of stuff.  I don't really see how/why this has happened.

Sorry, I don't know the exact sequence of steps that caused your problem to appear, other than at various times, for various reasons, the XML does get re-written even though it doesn't necessarily need to be.  And if the date format of the machine is non-US, it will write the wrong dates.

PS.  I assume that you already know this, but I have put together a patched version that has this bug fixed in it.  My version always writes the dates to the file in US format, and if it ever has any errors reading in a date it just displays blank for the date instead of erroring.  www.Jegers.com
