Hello there,

after I have finished my first webite,I did the following in order to publish it

1st I have changed the HTTPAlias field in PortalAlias table to the new server name(i.e. Www.mysite.com instead of loaclhost1234/mysite/)

2nd I have changed customErrors value in the configuration file to

customErrors mode="Off" in order to enable errors viewing by browsers running on remote machines .
3rd I have uploaded all the site files.
However,I have received this error message whenever I request the default page of my website

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Even though I have changed its value to OFF !!!
shall I forget any step,please help me.

Thanks in advance

  • make sure, the web.config is copied into the root of your web site
  • take care of capitalization, web.config is case sensitive

  Thanks for your reply,I have fixed the problem ,I had to set the root folder as ASP.NET 2.0 application.

But it is throwing another error related to database connection.

I am using SQL 2005 express and the connectionstring in the web.config file is

<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

the database located in the APP_Data directory.

Any suggestions?

The error is

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.
may be it will help in imagining the problem,

thank you so much

if you are using file based connection string, make sure not to touch the database using db studio or other tools. have a look at Shaun Mehaffie's Blog here on dotnetnuke.com, he analysed this situation a few months ago.
