I am looking for some cost comparisons for implementing a DNN portal vs Sharepoint for a 1000 user intranet/extranet environment. Can you point me to any resources where I can get this info?  Hardware, Sofware, Licenses, Customization servcies etc

thanks

Murali

Murali:

When you say 1000 users, is that the total population or 1000 concurrent users (meaning that the total population is much larger)?  And then, of the concurrent users that may be connected at the same time, how much activity would they be realistically doing?  I'm asking because in a previous life I worked in a major Oracle application for a total population of 1,200 users, this was when the Oracle licensing pricing was like black magic, it was not published anywhere, you would have to interview with a sales rep to get an estimate.  They tried to make us buy licenses for everybody (of course) which was more than half a mill.  Based on my experience with other databases for the organization (and its users) I recommended to get 150 licenses to get started and do testing.  You know what, even after the system was in full production (and it was a very successful system) the concurrent users never went above 110.

The question you are asking is not easy to answer, you would need to provide a lot more details about the site (or application), the usage patterns by the users, and the data involved among others.
