I installed DNN through the godaddy options and LO! It was good!

But I am building through the DNN ON THE Godaddy server (not my desktop) and access it through  /mydomain.com/DOTNETNUKE.

How do I get my site accessible via /mydomain.com   ?

I was unable to build and deploy from my desktop because of the incompatibility between SQL EXPRESS 2005 on my desktop and SQL 2005 on Godaddy.

Ok - I'll answer my own question - maybe someone else is stumped.

Godaddy is my hosting company. GoDaddy will install a full version of DNN to a directory named /DOTNETNUKE - it will not, and YOU cannot install DNN to root. There are other posts on this issue.

In order to get to your DNN site from the root, you have to install a page named "Welcome.html" on the root that either has a link to your DNN site, or permanently redirects to it.

For the self-proclaimed NOOB like me - an important concept to assimilate is that DNN is NOT maintained or updated through WDM 2005. It can be installed through WDM on your local machine - but from that point all development occurs within DNN.

If your hosting company is GoDaddy (shared) then your development will be occuring on the instance of DNN installed on GoDaddy. Your local install will be for preparation and testing but there will be no porting to your DNN on your Host.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

It makes sense... I've been trying all day to figure out how to "publish" my portal in Godaddy, and for the life of me I can't figure it out... what did you do? (I have the welcome.htm page that shows the "comming soon")

On the godaddy root, you create the index.html file with the following content

<

head >

<title>You domain name</title>

<meta content="0;URL=dotnetnuke/" http-equiv="refresh" />

</

Point your domain name to the root and index.html will redirect your visitor to your DDN site.

There is a workaround for installing DNN manually to Godaddy root. I'll release a tutorial about how to achieve this goal. But my release delayed due to relase date of DotNetNuke 4.5.0. I was thinking about releasing it at 15th March, but its delayed to 10th April i guess.

Check my webpage/blog for details.
