We are looking to use DNN for our corp intranet.  One of the features we liked in some other systems was an instant messenger module.  Something that will allow users to see who else is logged in, and send them instant messages like the old Novel messenger, or perhaps an AIM-type tool.

I've looked around a bit, and haven't really found anything like that for DNN.  Does anyone know of any such thing, free or pay?

There is a great option available from Scott McCulloch using his Private Messaging module along with built in Users Online: http://www.ventrian.com/Products/Modules/PrivateMessages.aspx

There are also a few actual Chat applications available, some have these kinds of features built in.

Supporting chat via your DNN application is very useful, but for the internal application something else might be better suited to your needs.  For example, there are a number of lightweight and really usable chat server applications out there.  Internally, we are trying out a Jabber server (http://www.jabber.org/software/servers.shtml) and folks are free to choose their client of choice (http://www.jabber.org/software/clients.shtml).
