You bet it would help!

I'm sure I could make the same modifications myself, but I just don't have time for any more after work projects....

Thanks!

I have modified UDT to support relationship between tables and lookups on other SQL tables. I suspect the UDT project team can not support this functionality because of security concerns in shared portal environment. In any case I can package up my modified UDT version if it would be helpful to your needs.

You bet!  I just saw a post about www.FreeDotNetNukeStuff.com.  That might be a good place to upload it.  Let us know where you put it! :)

Yes, you are right, we need to concern about security due to the different level of experience and hosting scenarios, in which DNN is used.

Couldn't there be a host setting that turned on/off the ability to join to other tables?

Have the UDT table join capability automatically filter by portal id, so one portal can't wander into another portal.

And the portal admin could have a page where they define, by user or user role, which tables can be joined to.

Wouldn't that be secure enough?

Maybe it would be secure enough, but that is not the point. It is not that we don't want to, but our time and resources are definitely limited.

Currently table joins are not a primary goal on the UDT road map.  If somebody is working on these features, for example as new data types and their developers are going to offer their code, we might be able to integrate them.
