I am working on implementing a custom membership provider

In addition i also need to add new fields to the new user registration to do some additional validation against a preexisting table

I thoughti could add some profile properties for the additional fields but i guess there is no easy way for them to show up on the user registration screen

what would be the correct way of doing this. I would like to add additioanl fields and have them stored within the dnn tables and also show up on the new user registration

In the latest versions of DNN it can be realized with Users Profile. You can create as much additional fields as you need. Its very easy and clear. You can just go to the Admin/User Accounts and to click "Manage Profile Properties".
