Interesting this thread put me into moderated status again.   Educated feedback.

Brian, I've unmoderated you again. I don't know who switched your status, I will speak to the other moderators and remind them of our policies.

Hey.  Did anyone else notice that there are banner ads running on DotNetNuke.com.  And what is up with those book announcements in the default DotNetNuke install.  Is that something new in 4.5?  Maybe Brian's copy doesn't have those "ads" but I know my copy does.

Here is a thought...  if you don't want to use the Solutions Explorer... don't click on the Solutions Explorer menu-item.  Now that the blog has appeared you have fair warning that you might actually learn about some modules being offered for sale if you go to that page.  Also, if that page is offensive be sure to stay away from Snowcovered.com, the DotNetNuke Benefactor page, the DotNetNuke Review Program page and a host of other locations where you might actually see an advertisement, or be offered a service that requires payment.  Of course, you could still go to those pages and just ignore the ads like everyone else who is not interested in the product or service.

There is a commercial ecosystem around the project...whoaa!  I and many other talented professionals have offered a lot of our time and effort on this project.  However, I am thrilled with the fact that others are making some money based on this collective effort.  After all, that's what competition and the free market's are all about.  Without the incentive of reward, there is no open source...I donate my time because I want to learn more...the more I learn...the more valuable my services are to my employers...therefore, you might say I too am getting paid for donating my time and effort.

I am up to about $1,800 in modules purchased at SnowCovered.   I didnt need a forced ad to buy anything.   An ecosystem already existed.

I dont like the ads in the default templates either.  Its a pain to change the template everytime a new version comes out.  :)

I understand why the forced advertising...  but like I said I'd rather pay.

A framework is just that ...   not meant to later be an advertisement model.   Maybe google should force ads out through their web services.

I obviously am happy others make money.. everyone should!   Thanks for listening..
