lots has been said about solpart already. You can probably find lots of reasons not to use SolPar, SEO is not one of them IMHO. Where it comes to SEO, you don't realy have to worry, because yes, solpart will render downlevel for browsers search engines.

The trick is of course to test whether your site navigates correctly for search engines. To test that, you could change the User Agent string of your browser and turn javascript off, and then visit your site.

read this blog on how to impersonate googlebot: http://www.ogletreeseo.com/22.html

A much easier way to see what Google sees on your site is to view the cached version of the page in the search results.

EG Search for dotnetnuke, the top result is dotnetnuke.com - the cached page can be viewed and seen to have simple navigation with all links visible, no dropdowns --> http://209.85.135.104/search?q=cache:TmwnvdFfzNMJ:www.dotnetnuke.com/+dotnetnuke&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=uk

... How are search engines supposed to crawl a DNN site with a navigation like this? I need traditional anchor tags for navigation links. Are there any alternatives available so that my DNN navigation can have traditional link anchor tags?
- John

You wont get very good search engine optimization with the SolPart menu, you will need an alternative such as John Mitchell's CSS nav menu (already mentioned) or Inventua's Side menu/top menu

What you probably havent noticed yet is even with a different menu, you still wont get good search enginge optimization - even with "friendly urls" turned on, dotnetnukes urls look like this "/tabid/795/Default.aspx", which is not going to help your optimisation efforts.  Instead you should turn friendly urls off and get Inventua's Href exchanger module - that will allow you to have urls like "/my-product.aspx", which is essential if you want to optimse on the keyphrase "my product"

We do search engine optimization for dotnetnuke and other platforms - www.bestwebsites.co.nz

You know your website is cool, so why not let your users help you by spreading the word on social networking sites - get the DotNetNuke Social Bookmarks Module with 57 different ways to add social bookmarks to your site ... or download the FREE demo right now
