The installation guide.pdf does not show the parameters that is needed to connect to the database and it does not list fully the system requirements. It is all too vague. It also doesn't cover all scenarios. I just want a clearer understanding of all the parameters needed when modifying the web.config file. I think the problem I'm having is not having a correctly modified web.config file. The documentation is too vague.

Can you install IIS on one server and have SQL on another?

From the reading of various docs,  it sounds like these are needed for DNN4.x:.
IIS 5+
.NET2
SQL2000+ (can SQLexpress be used??)

Hi,

I'm also new in this subject and also not my working subject but I'm interesting in web projects.So I wanted to configure a web site with donetnuke.I also prepared my web.config file about the database and user name and passwd but still not working.My database is mySQL. Is this this problem for server application error?Always my page is giving same error Server Error in '/' Application which is written below.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Could you please help me?What should I do so which strings must be changed?

Thank you from now on.
