Also, in SQL Server Enterprise Manager, I created a new database, right clicked on Logins in Security and saw a dialog called "SQL Server Login Properties - New Login" appear.  Do I want to select Windows Authentication or SQL Server Authentication?  I was not sure if this may have anything to do with my error as it is not related to a typo in the connection string.

I found the solution myself... I was not able to get this working with WA but was able to get DNN running using SQL Server Authentication.  Thanks for your advice trying to help me pinpoint the issue.

Hi Curtis,

Glad you were able to make some progress. When you get everything sorted out down the road, I'd try switching back to windows authentication. But for now, I bet you're happy to a site that's up and running! :)

For what it's worth, the username specified in the connection string when using windows authentication is NOT the account used to authenticate against the database. The account will be the one that your IIS process runs in, which will be either IUSR_ or NETWORK SERVICE (a member of the IIS_WPG group). This is the account that will need to be given permission in sql server.

Because you included a username in your connectionstring, I (incorrectly) assumed you were using sql authentication.
