While following the installation guide instructions, to carry out a CLEAN installation, I am perplexed as to why "release.config" file should be renamed "web.config", because in the unzipped (DNN4 Install) to C:\DNN, I notice that a file named "web.config" already exists. Looking at the info contained in both of these files they appear identical, so does anyone know what has happened here.

You have rename and modified the release.config to web.config.  Modified the Settings to your Database in the new web.config.  Make shute the permission settings for the Files and folders are setting right.

Regards

Matthias

4 flostin: You don't have to rename release.config to web.config for a clean install becouse, like you've correctly noticed, there's already web.config present in the installation package and it is in fact identical with release config. Just modify the connection string properties in the web.config. Creating web.config out of release config is necessary for upgrading your DNN portal to the next version (in wich case you must backup web.config first prior to renaming).
