Hi,

I have text module which gives a description of a document and the link to download the pdf file.  Is there any way to give access to only the link to registered users?  Currently I make the module visible only to registered users.  The downside to this is that the description of the document also disappears unless they are signed in.  I would like the description to be visible to all visitors and have only the link appear to users that are logged in.  Thank you in advance.

The only thing I can think of is to make the description one HTML module and have it viewable by everyone.  Make the link a second HTML module and only show it to registered users.

Could you accomplish that with the documents module?

I'm not familar with the document module (I'm still new to DNN).  Does it allow you to put descriptions with documents, etc and then make the link avaiable to registered users?  Thanks.

The documents module will offer you much better handling of downloads so it is a great idea to go for that one.

To achieve the set-up you want: Add the Documents module set as Viewable to All Users.  Then in your File Manager create a folder called say "Downloads" and set is as Viewable only to Registered User. Place the download files in this folder. Then when users click on a link they will be told they don't have permission to the file. It would be a good idea to add a Module header explaining to users that they need to register so they aren't confused. Check out the Module Settings of the Documents module on how to display the description and other fields as required.
