Hello,

I'm running DNN 04.03.04 with core forum module 03.20.08 installed.  The site has run basically untouched four about six months, and it has about 400 users.  In the past two days, I started getting the dreaded:

Critical Error: Object not set to an instance of an object

Errors whenever an anonymous user tries to visit forums tab.  The forums seem to work as expected most of the time when a user is logged in.  Any advice on this?  Would upgrading my portal to 4.4.1 help, or does that use the same forum module?

I am not sure what is causing this, but I don't think upgrading the core would help it.

Ok.  So what is the suggested course of action?  I have seen multiple posts on similar issues.  Should I uninstall the forum module and install 3.20.06?  If I do that, will I lose the entire contents of the forum?

brl6m,

I had the same problem and was not able to fix it.  I believe this is caused by the forums caching data that gets flushed within the application domain of .net 2.0 and when the forums try to access that cached data, it isn't there hence the null reference exception.  Unfortunately, I had to use presstopia forums.
