I just got off the phone with "Aaron" of Crystaltech's support team (I was trying to troubleshoot a 'Hashtable insert failed. Load factor too high' error on my DNN 4.4.1 install, error is under disucssion on this forum page). Aaron told me that Crystaltech - who are a Platinum sponsor of DNN - have decided that they will no longer support DNN installed on subdirectlries, only installs on the root of the server! It seems that the error I have been getting stems from this business decision.

This change of policy at Crystaltech is - obviously - a HUGE  inconvenience for me. I need to have my DNN on a sub-directory and - simply put - I will have to move hosts if this is no longer possible with Crystaltech. The reason he gave was that sub-directory installs were causing too many adminstrator issues. Has anybody else found this?

If I am not mistaken, Alec Whittington (DNN Core Team? a DNN Project Lead) works for Crystaltech. Maybe he could shed some light on what problems Crystaltech have been having with sub-directory installs.

For myslef I have to say that my DNN app has been installed on a sub-directory on a Crystaltech shared server without major issue since Nov 2006 (and i have sucessfully upgraded it to recent versions of DNN since then).

Got this clarification from another member of Crystaltech's support team:

"It is indeed a policy change as of last week. Although it is possible to install & run DNN in a subdirectory, it is no longer supported. So we can assist you with issues for root installations only.

To address your questions, the new policy shouldn't generate issues for customers that have installs below the root. It's merely a choice of what to support at this end. A properly configured installation to a subdirectory will still work fine."

This is less extreme a policy change that I was previosuly led to belive so - for me at least - the imapct won't be huge (I hope!)

I run three sites out of sub-directories at Crystal Tech. I would guess this has more to do with money than real support issues. Much better for Crystal Tech to sell three hosting accounts than one.
