It would be very helpful if a filled-in UDT could be exported to .xls, or at least to ASCII with table items seperated by tabulator or ";" or similar. It should be a feature which does not require edit rights.
Example: portal users can register for an event using the UDT. As administrator (edit rights) I set up the appropriate UDT. Then the security role "organisers of this event" should be allowed to export ("export rights") the list of registered users.

I think this is a good idea.

But if the module allows administrator-selected roles to use the export content menu item, it will also have to provide a way to allow that user to get access to the export file.  Currently, it is placed in the portal's directory.  The module does not appear to give the user an option to name the file or place it on a client directory.

Alternatively, you might make the data available thru the Reports module, or via an xsl template that displays the data in the format you need.

you could rigth-click the table (udt) and select "export to excel". that will only work, if excel is installed on the client.

Dear hth! Indeed I had in mind an export to the client computer of a non-admin-user, not the usual module export to the portal folders. Thanks for the alternative work-arounds that you mention. But on the long run I really think this should become a built-in feature of UDTs.

Dear Benjamin! Ok, with IE the right-click menue sais "Export to Excel" but I tried and only the first cell of the UDT appears in my excel sheet (neither with BasicTable.xsl nor with CardView.xsl). Apart from that, other Browsers do not show this export option in the right-click menue.

Dear all,

apparently this post has not attracted many users so far to join or support my idea. However, I still think that UDT as a standardised, powerful  and frequently used table-tool is predestinated for xls oder ASCII export. And I even dare to dream of import: how wonderful would it be to just import an xls or ascii file from my local computer and display it as UDT on the DNN-Intranet...

Sebastian, Stefan, is that not a frequent request? Any plans about that?
