I need to be able to send an email notification to the Portal Administrator when certain user profile fields are updated by a user (e.g. what features within the portal the user would like access to, then the admin could update what roles the user is in). I’m using DNN 4.4.1, is there a way this can be done with the core or could anyone recommend a good third party user profile/registration module that can do email notifications on field changes.

There are two approaches that you could take here.

1) If this module is something that upgradeability is not a concern you could just modify the Profile control within DNN (under the users folder) and add logic to send emails based on certain attributes changing.

2) The other approach is to replace the default DNNProfileProvider. This provider is fairly simple in that it has a method called UpdateUserProfile (line 161) in which you could modify and compare the specific attribute values and email accordingly. This approach will require you to modify the web.config file to point to your new provider assembly/class.

I have also come across Dynamic Registration 2.4 (see http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=6747) and UCanUse User Attributes Version 2.8 (see http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=5217) at Snowcovered and they both seem to be able to do this and have other advantages. Any opinions out there as to which one is better?
