If they are ASP.Net user controls, or even .aspx pages, then conversion will be pretty simple.

A DotNetNuke Module is a user control that inherits from PortalModuleBase.  After that you just need to use the DNN framework API for security, etc.

Can you develop a User Control (portlet) outside of the solution and then with the admin tool, point to it to add to the site?  Our current portal allows me to build my .net web app, then go to the admin console and point to it by giving the url where it is running.  Then users can add it to a portal page.  I dont want to have to compile or republish my entire site for each portlet/user control made.

No, it doesn't work that way.  Modules need to be registered in the DNN framework, and then injected directly into the main content page unless you use an Iframe as a wrapper.

Thanks, that helps.  May need to stick with what I have or figure out how to code a new app to do what I need.
