My company portals run on  DNN 4.3.4. We have 2 portals: one is public and one is private running on the same DNN instance. We want the search function to search the whole database (public and private portals).  I modified the GetSearchResults SP and the searchResult.ascx.vb accordingly to display the search results.  After all, I did a search from the private site, the results coming from both portals were displayed as expected. However, when I did a search from the public portal, only those items from the public portal were displayed (a result from the Query Analyzer showed records from both portal). What would prevent the public portal from displaying the results found from the private portal? I must have missed something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My guess is that there is permission logic or portal id checking on search results in the core module to filter out unrelated search results.  To ensure that only valid for the current context results are displayed.

Is the private portal the parent of the public by chance?

I thought so too, but I could not find where the logic is.

Anyway, they are both parent portals.

In that case, maybe there is a filter on portalid <= or >= that would filter the results only in 1 instance...

So, where would you think this filter be? I am still digging and digging..., but there is no light yet.  Not in the SP since I exec the GetSearchResults sp with different portalIDs, and it returned correct results.
