I've tried that, too.  No go.  In any case, I would find it surprising that the connection string provided by the host would be wrong?

What I've done:  Deleted everything.  Now, I'm waiting for the 4.5 starter kit to see of that works any better.

What I'll do next (if that doesn't work): find a different hosting service.

I had a few sites with GoDaddy about a year and a half ago and dumped them. They were not "ASP" sites but I found GoDaddy's shared servers to be a get what you pay for deal. The performance was laughable basically, lord knows how many domains they are stuffing on servers. One site I sent off to Siteground which is a really good hosting firm, decent performance and very affordable. The other went to Affinity as it was getting significant traffic increases.

With ASP sites, DiscountASP.Net is an excellent choice, these folks REALLY (and I do mean REALLY) know their stuff. Support is excellent and they are quite Microsoft recognized. Affinity corporation (which is the third largest host provider on the planet) has many brands under them, Valueweb, Gate.com etc. We also host with both ValueWeb and Gate, Valueweb we have some linux hosting with. Gate.com we have ASP hosting. Affinity is an EXCELLENT hosting company. The entire company is "reachable" in that from executive management to support. We have some work we are doing which will be using both ASP and Unix for the service. Its one of the reasons I am learning the code guts of DNN. Gate uses dedicated DB servers which is nice. Another nice thing I have liked about Affinity is the fact numerous times in speaking with support over the years (we have had sites with them since the 1990's) they will move our sites to higher performance servers at no cost. "ALL" hosting firms have older equipment and newer equipment, they do not just replace everything because new things come along. None will be happy to tell you that but it is the truth. Most advertise what they have that IS latest greatest but that by no means states your site will be using that. Uh uh. Over the years we have probably used 80-100 varied hosting firms and I can say matter of fact like is that Affinity is the only company we have ever found that values its customers in truest fashion.

But, point all being its been my experience with most hosting firms you get what you pay for (or less). DiscountASP.Net is not by any means the cheapest nor is Affinity's services.

what is the URL to the affinity you are talking about?  It looks like an affinity was sold to hostway. Is that the one?

Oh My!

That article is just dated late last week. Yes, that is the "Affinity" I am speaking of. I've never hosted with Hostway that I can recall. I know they are considered a top level provider. Affinity's corporate site is http://www.affinity.com/, we have hosting with them at Gate: http://www.gate.com/windows-hosting/ as well as Valueweb http://www.valueweb.com/

Yes, default strings for Godaddy are wrong, but you should be ok to create your own connection string after reading my tutorial.

They're wrong? [sigh].

OK - I'll follow your tutorial more carefully and try again.  Thanks.
