Hi, I am getting exactly the same error... The first install on a remote sever was fine... in the directory www.mydomain.com/dotnetnuke.

Now i have deployed DNN to the root of the webserver... i am hitting on big problems for the last SIX HOURS.
about three or four installs later and still errors.

yes, the install is fine, but as discussed elsewhere. when one parameter is not set correctly the whole DNN is crashed, leading to very frustrating rebuilds

Anyway, towards a solution... As mentioned i get the error now i have installed DNN in the root.

During the install the tables: dnn_Portal and dnn_PortalAlias are NOT getting populated with any data.
I have entered my own data here. Can any one comment on what EXACTLY should be entered in to the Tables ?  :
(or how to ensure the data gets written automatically to start with?)

dnn_PortalAlias and dnn_Portals
in particular the HTTPAlias and HomeDirectory fields ??

Thanks for any help... i can see DNN is a great package (when it runs)
and i am eager to get this running again... you comments are very much appreciated.

I am replying to my own post... but hey...

I went through several more iterations of the installer.

I found that having two instances of DNN on the server at the same time may have been causing me issues... or more to the point, two web.configs that were the same (not sure?, anyway)

After checking all the SQL Server tables, stored procs, views etc had been deleted from from the database
I done another another clean install ... and all was well.

Now the real fun begins actually playing with DNN. I am VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE FUNCTIONALITY SO FAR!

Did you ever try populating the tables? I am having a similar error?
