I did eventually find the link to the docs download
If, like me, you're new to DNN, even though I'm an experienced VB developer, then you look at the latest version - 4.6.2 - the 'starter kit' is described as 'everything needed to install on a development machine' so naturally I assumed it would include documentation...
Steeping down the list to 4.5.5 the docs package there actually links to the 4.4.1 docs - which to the uninitiated looks like some sort of mistake (assuming it isn't..)
The online documentation (Resources › Documentation › DotNetNuke Online Help) doesn't include anything about preinstallation or installation - that seems like a critical error to me
The Install It forum is full of people asking for help installing but devoid of any guides to installing, stickies to documentation, etc - the two facts could, somehow, be related!
I'f I'd bought DNN as a commercial product to use on a commercial website I'd be looking at getting my money back
and if I'm thinking twice then there must be a slew of other people who could have adopted DNN, helped improve the codebase and product, but _didn't_, because some of the important basics are lacking.
