Hi All,

I am developing a site here in DNN 4.4.1 : http://www.circadianinternet/cfctest.

I have two solpartmenu's. The top one is set to display root only.

The side menu is set as Level=Child, meaning that it shows only the Children of the current page.

This is fine until we are at a certain level in the heirarchy, at which point i wish to show siblings as well.

For example, clicking on Foster Carers gives the following: About Us, Why Foster, Who fosters, How to become a foster carer.

When one of these is clicked, the side navigation has no links, because these pages have no children.

Basically, i'd like the side bar navigation to show all children from the top level, but siblings AND children for non -root level options.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Richard

Wellll - the Solpart menu won't do all of what you want  - it's great but has limitations.

You will most likely have to think about using the http://www.inventua.com menu - I use it alot, there are two - a vertical and a horizontal.

Or you can check out what I did on http://fas.fowles.com.au - it's using the CSS menu from John Mitchell - http://www.snapsis.com.

I think you'll find it displays and renders very nicely - the horizontal and vertical menu concepts.

The difference between the two menus - one is a module  - inventua - and one is a skinobject  - snapsis -

For those who want to have a more 'embedded' approach, then the Snapsis menu seems to be the way to go.

If you want more flexibilty or multi menus on your site, then perhaps the Inventua one might be the one to do the trick.

Nice work by the way.

I've written a bit more about this site - on http://blogs.ninameiers.com/2007/04/11/New+DotNetNuke+Website.aspx if you're interested.

Hope this gives you some insight.

Hi Nina,

Thanks for your help. Glad you liked the site. It's my first DNN site, and i've found it a generally positive experience so far.

I'm pleased with my skin and containers, although it was designed for 800 by 600 which may simply be too small these days!

It's disappointing that the solpartmenu doesn't support these features. I was hoping not to have to buy a third party component, but it does seem like good value.

i read your experiences with the Snapsis menu, as was interested in your experiences with long menu item text. I suspect i will have a similar problem. What was your solution?

I guess my alternative options are to use starttabid and different skins if i don't want to use a third party component? have you any experience with this.

Alternatively, does DNN support the asp.net menu yet?

Finally, what would be the best way to write my own menu as unordered lists? How do i acquire the nodes from DNN? Do you know the best entry point into the API?

Thanks ever so much for your help so far.

Richard
