Switching the language on a site from en-US to en-IE plays havoc with my image gallery. Have the gallery team have taken this scenario into account. In the xml file for an album there are a number of date related entries:

    <approveddate>11/28/2005</approveddate>
    <createddate>11/28/2005</createddate>

As you can see these dates were entered in en-US format (MM/DD/YYYY). But when I change my site to use en-IE format (DD/MM/YYYY) these dates are interpreted as invalid date times causing the module to not load.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I've checked in the support.dotnetnuke.com and not seen it listed there. Interested in getting more feedback/opinions before I raise it as an issue.

Regards,
John

There are a lot of things like this which are in the process of being changed.  The current implementation of the gallery does not use a dataprovider, instead uses an xml file to store all the data.  We are in the process of changing this, at which time we will release another 'beta' so people can begin using the dataprovider.  I really believe this will be the beginning of the end of gallery issues.  Once the data is stored in the database I see this module developing at a much more rapid pace.  We also added a new team member to get the ball rolling.

Hi Crispy, thanks for your reply. I look forward to seeing this new implementation. Right now this date problem is preventing me from updating all sites in my installation to use en-IE language. People really get annoyed by date formats. Is there any time frame for the next beta release? Will this next release upgrade existing galleries that use .xml files to store their data in graceful manner?

Cheers,
John

Now of course everyone is having the problem with messed up Galery ressourcefiles as soon as they provide more than one language on their site. Get an English and German Admin and your galery will be out of function in no Time. A quick (and dirty) solution could be not to use the currently selected locale but a special locale when writing the xml files.

I have similar problem on my site. What I have noticed so far is that if user browser has 'wrong' language settings Gallery module crashing and whole page is unvailable.

I have on my host (DNN 3.1.1) two languages supported (finnish and english). Altought site default language for the site where I use module is english and user who is logged on the site default language is english it seems that gallery module digging language preferences from the user browser. For example if user has IE

  1. Internet options
  2. General -> Languages...

If user has here finnish as a default language or it is before english module will crash when user enter to the page because it can't format the date properly.

Just wanted to share this info if this helping to solve it and maybe helps other users to understand better the problem. I saw similar issue on Gemini project (GAL-1879) about locales and it was still unsigned. Estimate time for fix would be welcome because if this is not fixed anytime soon I'll have to take sources out and do a "hack" fix for my site.
