An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.

I have now tried several modules that need to create tables or fields in the database, Survey, and a Phot Gallery I purchased to name 2.   They both have this error.  I use both of these on earlier versions and on a MS Sqlexpress without problem.  I have also instaled Glinks module and no problem , but I am not sure if they create a table or not.

Since the fix for one is probably going to be the fix for all modules that show  this problem,  I thought posting it here in a general forum would make it easier for people to find.

Which DNN version?

make sure, both your connection strings in web.config are identical!

Man I know you are trying to help buts its fustrating to get the standard answer when the answer to your which version is right in the subject line.  The SQL is 2005 and the DNN is the latest.   The 2 places I know of are shown below.

<connectionStrings>

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 -->

<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=level6totheheartbeat.shr.phx3.secureserver.net;Database=peacemerchant;uid=peacemerchant;pwd=Purple3000" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

</connectionStrings>

<appSettings>

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value=""Server=level6totheheartbeat.shr.phx3.secureserver.net;Database=peacemerchant;uid=peacemerchant;pwd=Purple3000" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>

-->
