Is there a log file or somewhere else to go to find out the specific error that is causing this message? I was able to do a new 3.2.2 install successfully on another W2K3 server, but not this one. Not sure what DotNetNuke needs to create a portal successfully.

New 3.2.2 installation fails at script number 00:00:17.555:

00:00:17.555 - Executing Additional Scripts:
00:00:17.555 -   Creating Portal: My Website
00:00:17.946 -   Portal failed to install:
00:00:17.946 - Installing Optional Resources:

Using the install zip file. Using DotNetNuke for the virtual directory name and executing the install directly on the server.

First tried browing to http://[servername]/DotNetNuke (this worked on the first server). Then tried browsing to http://localhost/DotNetNuke URL to install. Any other ideas?

Thanks very much!

Hi

Did you ever get an answer or solution to this problem ?

I have a similar error in a shared hosting environment - but have managed to install locally (on Win2K) ok.

cheers

No success yet. You're the first response to this posting.

Similar situation. Installs locally on W2K3 successfully (warm up exercise on my development box). Receiving this portal install error on a VMWARE instance running W2K3 (hosted environment). Using same install procedure as the local box.

No clue to the exact failure/error causing the problem. My only thought is to step through the service call to the portal install code on the local box to see what it's doing.

Do you have any suggestions to try?

Check your file permissions again. When creating the portal the app tries to create a new folder on the root folder of your dnn installation.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I think the file permissions look ok. I'm executing the install directly on the server. I'm logged in as a member of the local administrator group. And I am intalling as http://localhost/dotnetnuke (to avoid the possibility of any name resolution problems).

Virtual directory and explorer permissions for the dotnetnuke root directory:
full - administrator
full - network service
full - system
read & execute, list folder contents, read - users
