Hello everybody,

I was always reluctant about upgrading. However, today I have just made my first upgrade of Dotnetnuke from 4.3.3 to 4.5.0 and everything went quite well. Although it says there were some errors, I have not noticed anything yet wrong. I merged the settings for the database and made sure I put the Machine Key. I thing it is used for the encription of passwords ...

However, I have a question, What happens if a visitor comes to the site while I am uploading the upgrade files using ftp (it takes a good while)? It may trigger the upgrade with mising files and consequent errors? how can a close my site while I do the upgrade, so nothing interferes on the upgrade?

Thank you

In the web.config you can set an app setting for AutoUpgrade (I think that is the name) to false.

You can then also upload an App_offile.htm file to you site, when that file exists it is the ONLY thing that users will see.  You can then trigger the upgrade via /Install/install.spx after your file copy has been completed.  Then you can remove the app_offline.htm file.
