Just a quick link for anyone who wants to learn a little about CSS Specificity and how it works. I know I've wrestled with this problem from time to time. You know, the times when you've changed your css and you think that a link should come out a different way but it's still not looking the way you envisioned. The author cleverly explains it in terms of a poker hand, http://iamacamera.org/default.aspx?id=95.

Thanks for that Richard - a great way to explain something that eludes many people!

I had to go and look since you worded something very well.. and that is.... 'it doesn't look as I envisioned' on one or two occasions.

I particularly like the 'Joker' in the deck!

That's a nice site.

One extra tip for these kind of "problems"

Use Firefox with the Firebug extension.

It will show you exactly what definition overrules another.
