The code looks ok but how big are those images? eg. how many kb are the images in the whole page?

there's nothing bigger than 10 kb.   I have realized a  new CSS  based skin that seems to work  better, but it's really very similar to this one, so I don't know what exactly is wrong with this one.

What module containers are you using?  try _default/nocontainer and see if your performane increases.

Menu set-up is always the same and it's really simple: there's 4 items including home and 3 self-developed modules: each module has his own navigation system, based on multiviews and asp link buttons.

No containers at all. Every container setting has been set to non-visible
