I am using different domain names and databases for each instance, shouldnt that avoid naming conflicts?

 My root install isnt working either, I am getting an error but do not know what is casuing it becuase error dosent tell me anything,

www.chickensplus.info is the root.

I did rename , left the one to webold.config in the installation that is semi working.  Renamed the one in the root back to web.config, but no joy.

No, that doesn't change the fact that they are in the same application path according to windows. What is happening is your /dnn web.config is inheriting your root web.config because it is in it's physical path. Sorry, I left that step out above, you have to remove the web.config from your virtual, however, you can leave the virtual and the directories so that if any paths are referenced they will still work.

well you were right I deleted the one on my root and my site came back.
