I have built a new module from scratch in which I would like to customise a number of properties for a particular site so that this one configuration may be shared across all module instances across all pages within that site. Is this possible? I can see the option to customise the settings of an instance of a module but this does not help me. Thanks.

Mark

I'm not sure what the best approach for this is, but what we ended up doing for instances like this.

We (engage) add an entry to the HostSettings table, with our setting name being SettingName# where # is the portal ID, and then set the value. We have our modules looking for the SettingName# for each setting/portal that we need to use it on.

I believe if you add the setting to the "ModuleSetting" list rather than the "tabmodulesetting" list it will be persisted for ALL instances of the module.  I would have to test that to be 100% sure.

Good call Mitchel, that might work too.

please notice the difference between a module definition, a module and a tabModule:

  • Text/HTML is a module definition
  • if you place it on a page, both a module and a tabmodule get created
  • if you select "copy module" from the control panel, you create a shadow of the same module, i.e. another tabModule.

TabModuleSettings apply to an instance of a module on a page, while ModuleSettings apply to all instances of a module HAVING THE SAME CONTENT!

if you want to apply settings to all module instance you either need your own storage, store in settings of a unique module (e.g. portalSettings) or utilize host settings with a key containing a portalID
