Hi All.

First of all, yes, i searched the Forum but did not find something suitable for my question.

I'm with DNN since 4.3 and made every single upgrade step since then, now i'm with 4.5.1.
Also i've tried some additional modules (install, deinstall), skins etc.

Now, as i think there are a lot of "cadavers" in the installation i was thinking of make a virgin installation of 4.5.1, connect it to the already existing DB and that's it. But i guess, it is not.....

How can i make this happen including additional modules (i use 2 in my system) and my favourite skin?

My idea:
- make a new (temporary DB)
- install 4.5.1 and point it to this DB
- install addon modules and skin
- point installation to old DB
- kill temp-DB

Will this work?

Thanks in advance.

it will work, but you can also simply delete all system files before upgrading:

  • root files
    • all except .config files
  • main folders
    • admin
    • app_code:  only those sub directories of modules, that you re-install during installation or orphaned folders from deleted modules
    • app_data: if you not use file based connections string (containing database.mdf)
    • app_GlobalResources: all except locales.xml
    • bin: all .dll files, except from kept modules
    • components
    • config
    • controls directory
    • desktop modules: only those sub directories of modules, that you re-install during installation or orphaned folders from deleted modules
    • documentation
    • images
    • install
    • js
    • NOT portals
    • providers
    • resources (4.5.0+)
  • if you made customizations of language items, keep the associated files as well.
  • if you installed additional language packs, you will need to reinstall them
  • NEVER FORGET TO MAKE A WORKING BACKUP FIRST!!!

Cheers from Germany,
