I am currently trying to set up new roles for editing and then assign them users and change modules to be edited by these roles.  Seems simple enough but something is wrong.
I have set up the role of editor, and asigned the role to a test user.  If I then asign the editor role the view and edit of an entire page it works fine and the test user can edit everything on that page.  But I don't want the test user to have access to adding modules and pages, so I was just going to give them access to the modules they need to edit.  So on a page were the editor security role is NOT assigned to the page for editing, I have assigned to view and edit to the modules instead, but when I log in as the test user I can not edit anything?  It is as if the test user has been givin no rights to edit at all.  What am I missing?  I really need to do this because I want to be able to add users that can edit items without having access to all the things that administrators do.  Can someone please help?

This should work just fine, it is pretty basic DNN functionality.  What module are you assigning edit rights to?  What exactly is the behavior that you are witnessing that leads you to the conclusion that it does not work?  I only ask because it could be an issue with the module itself, the container, your role setup or configuration.

Cheers

Thats just it, the modules are text/html and image, I haven't tried anything more complex yet.  What leads me to the conclusion that they are not working is that when logged in to the site as the newly setup user with newly created rights they do not get the edit or settings options. Now this is weird but sometimes on the text/html module the pulldown will show up but only have help in it.

Thanks

Doug

That's not correct behavior, Doug... if things are set up correctly.  But without a look or a couple of screenshots its hard to tell.  This would be all that is required in order to accomplish what you are suggesting.

1. Create a Role ( "Role.Editor" for this example )

2. Add a Registered, non-Admin User to "Rile.Editor" ( if they are unregistered, you don't know who they are or what their role is ).

3. Set the Page permissions such that the User can view the page ( not Edit ).  Test this.

4. Leave the module View permissions as inherit from page.  But check "Role.Editor" for Edit permissions.

Log out.  Log in.  You should be done.

OK, All that is exactly as you have said, but it is still not working.  What should I have the host look at on the setup side?
