... Or will i have to revert to IWeb?

I am just curious, why don't you want to use IWeb? All it really is is a web service that already contains some helpful methods. I do admit that it does not have a create user method right now so you would have had to create one like you did.

IWeb might seem kinda large but thatst because of the methods for security and encryption (and the sample Windows forms client that can simply be deleted once you look at it). How will you handle that with your web service? Or are you behind a firewall?

I had the exact same problem trying to use a webservice to create new users and afterwards sending them a registration message. The Currentportalsettings then just doesn't work. Btw, I do use iweb but I don't see how that solves the problem getting the portalsettings for the sendmail method.

However, the following (using the overload on the Portalsettings constructor) seems to work for me as it doesn't seem to use the httpcontext.Current:

Dim objPortalController As New PortalController
Dim objPortalInfo As PortalInfo = objPortalController.GetPortal(portalID)
Dim objPortalAliasInfo As New PortalAliasInfo
objPortalAliasInfo.PortalID = portalID
Dim portalsettings As New PortalSettings(objPortalInfo.HomeTabId, objPortalAliasInfo)
