I've been attempting a new install of DNN 3.3.7 and I keep generating errors documented on the Installation Status Report.

Each zip file in the Install/Modules directory is line itemed and fails to install. I suspect it has to do with the security permissions for my ASPNET User account but I've checked that and the ASPNET User appears to have Read, Write, Modify, and Read & Execute allowances carried down from the permissions granted at the root level.

My setup is Office XP, IIS 5, and SQL 2000, all running locally on my workstation.

Do I have to unzip the module packages individually before I attempt to install?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. -kf

Please install the latest version of DNN (4.5.1) if you can. It's much faster...

If you have to install 3.3.7 you can download this file to test your install environment

(it tries to create a folder and write a file, a bit like the new 4.5.1 installer)

Copy it to the install folder and open it in your browser.

Hope that helps

Thank you Timo. A new install of a more recent version went just fine and DNN appears to be behaving as expected. I appreciate your time taken to respond.

The ASPNET user account will need read permissions on the root of the drive on down until it gets to the install location where it'll need modify. IE: If you install is on C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DNN the account will need read on C:\, InetPub, and wwwroot and modify on DNN.

But like Timo said, I'd go with DNN 4.5.1 if you can. DNN 3.3.7 was the last version developed for .NET 1.1 and no further versions will be produced.

By the way I have successfully installed DNN 4 on machines without root read rights, I couldn't install DNN 3 with ASP.NET 1.1

(Shared Hosting)

(in fact the only thing you need is "Read Attributes" rights on the root)

I asked around and nobody could confirm this but I guess the .NET 2.0 "CreateDirectory" was programmed a bit smarter then the 1.1 version (read less stupid).
