For a clean install of 4.5.1, should I delete the existing web.config that comes with the download, or should I keep it?

Old instructions for install using the Install.zip version of DNN (i'm thinking of the 4.x instructions) say to rename release.config to web.config.  Clearly this overwrites the web.config file that comes with the download.

Why? and Which is best for a clean install?

the install package comes with a correct web.config file, no need to delete that  (in fact, it should be the same as release.config, although i never really checked that...).

No, there's no need to delete either not of them. When you're thinking of a release (as a production solution) the must importent tag and difference to my configs is <compilation debug="true" strict="false"> or <compilation debug="false" strict="false">. When you are switching off the debugging of the system via web.config it has much better performance and you can (normally) use the same configuration.
