My boss wants to know if DNN has a module that would work as a front end to accessing and adding documents to a users folder on a file server we have and use AD to check security.  (does that make sense?)  So instead of accessing files on the web server, we have a different file server where every AD user has their own folder.

As of right now the DotNetNuke core only supports accessing files that are on a mapped location to the file server.  Also as far as I can remember the documents can only be stored in the DNN directory structure, so in short, no the documents module would not support that type of access.

You will most likely need to build a custom module for your implementation.

You may be able to achieve your goal by using DFS to replicate the relevant DNN folders with folders on your file server.  http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/storage/dfs/default.mspx

So using DFS I would replicate all the student directories onto the web server?  I'm not sure we have enough room for that.
