OK, I'm running the following on my desktop:
Windows XP Pro w/IIS
SQL Express

I went into SQL Server Management Studio Express and created a Database (first time I have ever used this product, but I think I did it correctly).

I unzipped the Install package into C:\DotNetNuke and created a virtual directory called "DotNetNuke" and made sure I was using ASP.NET 2 framework.

Here is what I need help on:  The web.config connection string.   I have here:
     <add
         name="SiteSqlServer"
         connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|SWING-BLADE|DotNetNuke.mdf;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

What should I be putting for "AttachDBFilename?  Also, Swing-Blade is my machine name (which ahs the SQL Express installed)...is this correct?

Thank you for your assistance.  Mark Gordon

OK, I got this to somewhat run, but now my problem comes when I test the SQL Express Database connection.   It comes back with the following error:

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 20
Number: -1
Message: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I'm using the "sa" account with a password.  Not sure what's wrong here?

Mark,

if you manually created the database and granted access, you need to use the SQL 2000/2005 connection string. please ensure, that both are changed identically.

Thank you Leupold.  I went ahead and commented out the SQL Express connection strings, but here is what I get now:

Parser Error Message: The configuration section cannot contain a CDATA or text element.

Source Error:

Line 34:   <appSettings>
Line 35: <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules -->
Line 36: <!-- <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/> -->
Line 37:

Hi Leupold (or anyone that wants to help here!)  :-)

I figured out what I was doing wrong in my web.config file.  I am now receiving this error after the first screen in the install:

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.

Any ideas?  Thanks for helping!  Mark Gordon
