Alex/John - thanks for the info - I raised the problem with my host and he said there may have been a rogue nameserver that did not exist (ns.smart-thinker.com, where it should be root1.smart-thinker.com and root2.smart-thinker.com) (removed the NS one yesterrday)

Host-Tracker is now showing 14 OK and 11 Fail (was that the same as yesterday?) - I don't know it if it just a matter of time but would you mind trying it again in a little while? I noticed my traffic on PokerDIY was 1/4 of what it normally was, and Google could not see my sitemaps, but ironically everything is working fine for me (in the UK too - must be a different DNS server I am using)

Any other DNS tips to isolate the issue?

I always use www.dnsstuff.com to view dns issues (scroll down to the bottom of that page to view the free tools). Here is the dns report for smart-thinker.com:
