I know this is a noob type question, and maybe I've missed it in my searching through the forums.
I even bought DotNetNuke for Dummies and they don't address my question:

Can I install the lastest release on Windows 2000 server? I want to do a fresh install of the most recent version of DNN, and I'd really like to avoid shelling out some more $$$ on Server 2003 if I don't have to. It's for a personal site on my server at home.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can install the latest version on Win 2000.  The server will need to have asp.net 2.0 running.

DNN does not require any particular version of Windows, it simply needs a webserver and a version of .net installed, which means windows 2000, xp, 2003 and vista are all supported.
