I'm sorry it's been a year since I looked at the tutorial. It does tell you to publish. I was mistaken. The only advice I can provide:

* Try using the install version not the source.
* Don't use WAP use the WSP format for the tutorial
* You can try the WAP format (Using Web Application Projects (WAP) ) it will compile the assemblies for you
* You can't fix the names of he assemblies. If it;s important to you you will want to use the WAP format.

I have tried to set up a new instance for WAP development as you suggest

This initially went fine then for somereason started to go awry (I kept getting errors saying page was not a member of my control)

I did some research on this and discovered that the Version compatibility for the project had to be set to false, this seemed to have little effect

I have tried to set up another instance for WAP development but this wont even run from a fresh install HTTP error 403 - yes I have set the machine aspnet user to have full permissions

THe original WAP set up I am using had lost some references ( the http modules - compression , exception etc - once added the erro now being returned is

Exception Details: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: type

Source Error:

Line 225:
Line 226: ' dynamically create the object
Line 227: Return Activator.CreateInstance(CreateType(TypeName, CacheKey, UseCache))
Line 228:
Line 229: End Function

Source File: C:\Inetpub\DNN451Source\Library\Components\Framework\Reflection.vb    Line: 227

Any idea???

You want it to say Inherits Entities.Modules.PortalModuleBase so leave that in there.

I am not that experienced with WAP development with  DotNetNuke. Perhaps others can help.
