I need help from someone completing the install of DNN on my XP Home system.  I've worked my way through the install guide and gotten to a point where I feel like the install should have worked.  I can detail the steps that I've taken and the particulars of my system and the errors I've received offline with anyone who is willing to give me some help.  Thank you.

This is my latest error when trying to run the install:

Server Error in '/DNN2' Application.

Failed to access IIS metabase.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironmentException: Failed to access IIS metabase.

The process account used to run ASP.NET must have read access to the IIS metabase (e.g. IIS://servername/W3SVC). For information on modifying metabase permissions, please see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=267904.

I think you've forgotten the permission of your dnn directory. You must set assign the user asp.net to this directory with full permissions.

what webserver are you running? Strictly speaking XP Home does not support IIS, though there are unsupported hacks to get it to work. It does look like a permissions error as the previous poster stated, but if you're using an unsupported OS/Webserver combination that may be causing issues also.

The error message you are getting is related to ASP.NET 2.0 not being registered correctly with IIS.

To fix this issue you can do the following.

open a command prompt

Change to the following directory C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\n2.0.50727

Run the following aspnet_regiis.exe -u

then run the following aspnet_regiis.exe -i

Then you should be set!

Thanks for the comments.  I think you're all on the right track.

Cathal, to answer your question I am running IIS 5.0 on my XP Home system.

Mitch, I will try your solution I get home.  Hopefully that will solve it for me.  I don't recall if the installation guidelines included the step of  changing directories in the command prompt before issuing that command. As a result, that step didn't work for me and I had hoped that I could get away with skipping that step.  I'm crossing my fingers.
