OK, What am I missing?

I've extracted the DNN install to a directory, configured IIS, renamed (copied) release.config to web.config, created a SQL 2000 database and user, set file permissions and put the SQL connection string into web.config.

However, I'm getting the following error:

Could not find file 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\DotNetNuke_template.mdf'.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Ideas?
TIA,
Owen

OK. I got past that error (There are TWO places in web.config where you have to set the connection string).

Now, I get an error while it's installing just saying that the portal failed to install -- no reason.

Then I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when I try to go to the portal.

Ideas?
Owen

When I click on the "Click Here To Access Your Portal" link, I get the object not set to an instance error....

Here's the output of the install (note the failure to install the portal with no help given):

Installing DotNetNuke

OK. I got it working!

Problem: could not create the admin or host logins (BUT there were no specific errors logged by the installation scripts to tell me that! I poked around in the database and noticed that there were no users, even though admin and host should have been created).

Cause: I changed the minimum username length to 6 and the minimum number of alpha characters in the password to 1 in the web.config file.  SO, when the membership module attempted to create admin and host, either one of both of those conditions were violated, so it didn't create.

Solution (to get site working): DON'T CHANGE the defaults there until after the site is installed and working....

Cheers,
Owen
