Scenario:

I design a module with a number of Session data to persist module's states between postback round-trips and page navigation.

Issue:

If I have two instances of modules on the same pages, they all conserve the same session data,  say Session["A"].

How and what DNN mechanism can I take advantage of to avoid naming conflict ?

Dose each module instance contain a unique ID?

Each suggestion is welcome.

Ricky.

use querystring or viewstate to maintain data during postbacks.

Since the data persisted in Session is supposed to be a bit large, our team hope to store it on server side, reducing the overhead between network transmissions. Moreover, as I know, query string is limited to its lenght.

Ricky.

Ricky,

You could use the moduleid as part of the key for the session object if you need to do it that way.  So you have the moduleid + your session key, then you would have a unique identifier for each instance.

Hi Mitchel

I know that after intalling a module with "01.00.00.SqlDataProvider" sql script that is created by start kit, there exists a table for recording each module instace's info where a "ItemID" column (not the moduleID in Modules Table) identify each module instance as shown below. The problem is how do I get ItemID with ease.

Thanks,

Ricky
