I would also be interested in hearing from other people who are indexing DNN websites, and any tips or advice in this area. For example, is there a list of URLs or parameters which should be commonly ignored by the indexer.

You might be interested in a tutorial we've put up on how to create a search engine for a DNN site using our Zoom Search Engine product: http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/support/tutorial_dnn.html It talks about indexing and crawling a DNN site and includes some tips on avoiding issues with some of the less search engine friendly aspects (eg. using a skip list to avoid URLs containing certain parameters). You could also use our Indexer as a tool to test your own site to see how other search engine spiders would behave when crawling your website. It should point out similar issues (eg. Javascript menus would be a problem for all web spiders). From a SEO point of view, Zoom can also generate a Google Sitemap when it indexes your website, and report any broken links. Hope that helps!
