I recommend the following....after doing multiple upgrades like this myself.

3.  I would first upgrade to the most recent version of 3.x, then do the upgrade to 4.5.1

I suggest to upgrade to 3.2.2 first,

then wipe out all content of tables files, folders, eventlog, sitelog, schedulerhistory and search teables.

Now Upgrade to 4.5.1 directly.

Note: do NOT delete entries from Files and Folders tables AFTER you upgraded to 3.3.x/4.3.x or later!!!!

Leupold has a good recommendation, that should prevent any issues with the logs and folder structure constraints....

You forgot to meantion Test Test Test, and uh Test!

I have moved some sites from 3.3.7 to 4.5.1 without troubles in the core. The only areas I have ran across issues is in modules. Mainly the core XML, and another I can't recall off the top of my head had issues with ModuleSettings upgrade scripts which will effect every module that has a key stored in modulesettings with the same name.

HTH's,

Dave

One thing to keep in mind as you read the forums is that people normally don't come to the forums and post unless they have a problem.

Just want to inform you all that I have made a lot of sucessfull upgrades rom 3.x to 4.x and from 4.x to 4.y. The next one will be from 3.2.something to 4.5.2.
