Have you copied or migrated the database?

I have not copied or migrated the data.

This is a new install I was following the "Readme" instructions. I am assuming that a script should run to install the tables. I have created a database on my SQL server called DotNetNuke and was pointing to that.

Shouldnt I be able to run this using the

Windows authentication Like I did to connect to the database and create the DB in the first place? I would like to enable all users to be able to access.

Have you created a user/login for this database? Did you inserted the data (user / pw) into the connection string?
The error happens when you have a problem with the user.

I was trying to connect without a user / pw I thought that I could?

I have added a user and PW to SQLServer I have granted all rights to the user on the servers permisions tab

I added that user to the DB permisions tab as well as the NT user.

I still get this error when trying to conenct

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 14
Number: 18456
Message: Login failed for user 'DNNUser'.

Obviously you've still a problem with the user. Maybe we would find a quicker solution by doing the db new.
First delete the database. Then create the database (e.g. DNN),  a new login account (e.g. dnn; hint normally I prefer a SQL Server authentication) and last but not least a user for the database (DNN -> Security -> Users !!!).
Now you should try the connectivity to the database with the MSSQL Server Management Studio (Express). Why? - it's clear that when after an error occurs the fault is the dnn or the iis configuration.

When connection works start dnn installation.

Tell me if you're sucessfull - good luck
