I have found that after upgrading to 4.5.1 from 4.4.1 that the host and admin accounts won't login and I cannot request the password for either account - I get told there was an error.

I have been able to reset the admin password, but cannot find the host account in the list of users, so I cannot change the host password. I would appreciate help with this.

Also, is there a way to know that DNN is using the complete ASPNET 2.0 membership? I know the website is using ASPNET 2.0 Do I have to change a setting in the web.config to ensure it uses the ASPNET2.0 membership? I notice my db is only using two tables in the aspnet_ tables and most are the normal DNN user userroles and so on.

See here, how to proceed an upgrade. ASP.Net membership configuration is placed inside web.config. Notice, that DNN 3.3/4.3 only use parts of the membership components due to DNN special requirements (like flexible user profile, role groups).

Great Tip Leupold

I have just had the same problem and eventually worked out it was due to not copying the machine key across in the config ( upgrade from 4.3.6 to 4.5.1)

Worth pointing out this is a fundamental error that messes up the logins
